OBJECTIVES

To understand your expectations of the gas networks in helping deliver a decarbonised energy system and how the networks can work collectively.

YOUR COMMENTS & OUR RESPONSES

You told us that the government cannot make decisions in favour of gas without further evidence that future gas options are feasible. You told us to do this we must be running live trials of hydrogen and that you want to see more trials being done to build an evidence base.

From 2021 our next step will be to move to real-world trials across our portfolio of projects. To achieve this, we will collaborate with gas distribution networks and other utilities to explore the commercial applications of the technology and the most effective delivery models.

You told us that you are supportive of the whole systems approach but that the definition is broad and that we must ensure that all utility companies have a shared definition of it.

We understand the ever-evolving nature of the definition and in our business plan have adopted a broad definition of Whole Systems and are proactively seeking to establish an effective means of collaborating with electricity, water and telecommunications businesses.
